NEW ASSISTANT RABBI WELCOMED AT HENDON'S FESTIVE SEUDAH SHLISHIT
Nearly 200 people attended a festive Seudah Shlishit at Hendon United Synagogue, Raleigh Close, last Shabbat afternoon, 6th September, to welcome Rabbi Leo Dee and his wife Lucy to the community. Hendon United Synagogue, in partnership with TRIBE, has appointed Rabbi Dee as the new assistant Rabbi to enhance the ongoing revitalisation and development of the community.
Rabbi Dee has recently returned to England with his family after four years of study at the Ohr Torah Stone institutions in Efrat, which culminated in his receiving S'micha (Rabbinical ordination). Rabbi Dee also holds a first class degree in chemical engineering from Cambridge University and had worked for 10 years in the financial sector in the City before embarking on his Rabbinical studies.
At the Seudah, Rabbi Dee delivered a very well received inaugural Shiur entitled 'Jews and Food' which looked at various ways in which one can better understand and relate to our obligation to thank G-d before and after eating. He also expressed his pleasure at joining the community, commenting: "Together with my family, I am delighted by the warm welcome we have received on our arrival in Hendon and am excited at being able to work alongside a Rabbi of Rabbi Ginsbury's calibre and experience, within such a distinguished and vibrant setting as the Raleigh Close community."
Hendon United Synagogue Chairman, Jonathan Miller, commented: "Rabbi Dee's appointment will enable him to gain invaluable Rabbinic experience and expertise under Rabbi Ginsbury's guidance whilst the community as a whole will benefit from Rabbi Dee's additional attention to its several Minyanim, diverse interest groups and educational and social events."
