NEW INITIATIVE SEES YOUNG RABBINIC INTERNS RETURN TO UK FOR HIGH HOLY DAYS
As part of a new initiative by the Community Division of the United Synagogue, seven Rabbinic interns currently studying in Israel have been brought over to the UK, together with their families, to help US communities with their services during the High Holy days.
The scheme was coordinated by TRIBE Executive Director Rabbi Andrew Shaw in response to communities asking for extra assistance during the busy Yom Tov period.
The seven interns, who are all currently studying in Israel for their Rabbinical ordination, assisted with running explanatory services, leading davening, giving sermons and running youth services. The communities involved in the scheme include Barnet, Brondesbury Park, Kingston and Woodside Park Synagogue.
As part of their return visit to London, the programme included a day spent at the United Synagogue meeting with the various departments as well as a morning with the Chief Rabbi and a Melvah Malka with Dayan Abraham.
Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Tribe Executive Director and Youth Rabbi for Stanmore Synagogue commented, "The feedback we have got from the communities regarding the interns has been really positive and it has also been a great opportunity for us to show them that there are opportunities for them to work for United Synagogue in the future."
Marc Levene, former Borehamwood resident who is currently studying in Shappels Yeshiva in Jerusalem commented, "It's been a phenomenal opportunity to be a part of this brand new initiative to encourage young members of the UK Jewish community who are studying in Israel to return to their roots and give back to their local communities during these busy Yom Tavim."
