UNITED SYNAGOGUE SHINES A LIGHT TO COMMEMORATE KRISTALLNACHT

To mark the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the United Synagogue is recommending that a prominent light is left on overnight in every US Shul throughout the UK. The initiative, spearheaded by the United Synagogue is encouraging all other communities and schools to take part on 9th November, exactly 70 years after Kristallnacht in recognition of the countless number of Synagogues, Jewish businesses and houses destroyed.

The United Synagogue will also be holding a commemorative service at Barnet Synagogue on Sunday 9th November at 7.30pm, co-hosted by the two newest members of the US, Barnet Synagogue and Alei Tzion. The special ceremony will also be attended by the Chief Rabbi, Sir Jonathan Sacks together with a number of other dignitaries.

Jeremy Jacobs, Chief Executive of the United Synagogue commented: "On the 70th anniversary of Kristallancht, the night where so many lives were broken, we are asking all Synagogues to unite by ensuring a prominent light is left on in their community. This dreadful event still resonates in today's world and by being part of this commemoration, the United Synagogue and wider Jewish community can reflect on the past and in our lives today."
